Soul Gratitude

As we head into November, you'll see many (myself included) note what they are grateful for every day on their social media page. I'm a firm believer in the power living in gratitude has on our mind, body and spirit.

When I was in high school my sister gave me a gratitude journal. She didn't know it, but it was the perfect gift. I was in that dramatic teen period where everything was a big deal and I was a bit depressed. I started writing in that journal and have still have it. Writing in that journal taught me the practice of living in gratitude. I call that soul gratitude. It's not just saying thank you or noting that you're grateful. It's really sitting in a place of gratitude for all life has to offer. I'm not saying life is all rainbows and unicorns. That, would not be accurate. I am saying you have a choice and you can choose gratitude.

Let's briefly look at SOME of the benefits of living in gratitude:

  • Improved relationships

  • Improved physical & psychological health

  • Decreased aggression

  • Enhanced empathy

  • Generates better sleep

  • Improves self-esteem

  • Improves mood and emotional regulation

  • Reduces stress, burnout & PTSD symptoms

  • Creates greater mental strength

Now, I'm not making this list up. There are many studies (go Google for them) that scientifically prove all of the above. We have all heard "you are what you eat". I also believe, you are what you think. If you are focused on what you're angry about, sad about, lacking... those feelings will thrive. What you think is completely in your control. How fun is it that you get to CHOOSE your focal point?!
